Poster madness!

I feel like I have been posting a lot of vintage posters recently, but I just love them!  Making a poster now is no big deal.  We just get on the computer, arrange a few things, and suddenly it’s done (I am not complaining about that, especially when I need a poster for one of my events!).  The problem is that they are not works of art any more, but just something quickly put together to get the message out.  I think that vintage posters, while they had a very clear message that they were trying to portray, were really works of art in themselves.  My recent obsession with vintage posters has led me to want to design and paint some myself.  I will be posting these over on my painting blog soon, but in the meantime, check out a few of my favorite vintage movie posters I have recently come across.

Tough Enough

Photo by the amazing Keith J. Carson. This is one of the photos from my vintage pin-up shoot a few months ago.  Want to see the painted version of this picture?  Come to my show at Coffee & Crema here in Greenville tomorrow night.  The reception is from 6-9pm, and music will be provided by the wonderful Stephanie Fagan.  Coffee & Crema is located in the Fresh Market shopping center on Atrium Blvd., between Laurens Rd. and Pleasantburg Dr.

A Glance at Etsy

I don’t think I have ever shared my Etsy shop on this blog.  I am horrible about keeping up with it, but I just added a bunch of my vintage style oil paintings, as well as prints of some of my larger pieces.  Go check it out, and I promise that I will do a better job of adding new pieces!

One track mind

Click for source

Whenever I have an art show coming up, it is basically all I can think about.  My mind is totally taken up this week by Open Studios this weekend.  So, keeping in the art vein, I found this great photo on Flickr of a woman drawing.  It is amazingly hard, though, to find vintage photos of women making art.  The most common images I found were of women painting their fingernails.  Do you have any photos of vintage women creating any kind of art?  Please share!

A Sneak Peek

We spent most of the day hanging the work for tomorrow’s vintage affair!  I am so excited that it is finally here!  This event has been in the works for at least 10 months.  Here is a sneak peek of how the gallery looks.  Want a closer look, plus great food, music, and amazing raffle prizes?  Then come out to the art & light Gallery tomorrow night!

Housewives and Army Wives

The reason for my recent lack of posts was that I participated this weekend in the West Greenville Arts Festival.  Although it rained the entire weekend, it was fun and beneficial, and I got to see just how waterproof my tent is.  Needless to say I am exhausted and have spent today lounging on my couch like a true lady of leisure.  So, in a moment of shameless self promotion, I am posting a few of the pieces in my Modern Conveniences series of paintings, currently on display at the Greenville Little Theater during their run of Noises Off.  And, I encourage you to check out my art blog, where I will shortly be posting photos of my rain soaked weekend!

On a totally different note, did any of you see last night’s episode of Army Wives?  It is not a show I typically watch, but last night they did a 1940’s episode.  I would have watched for the clothes and hairstyles alone, but I was also excited because many of my friends from the swing dance scene here in Greenville were the background dancers in the USO segment at the beginning of the show!  I haven’t been able to locate any screen shots from the episode, but any of you guys who were there, send me your photos and I will post them here.  In the meantime, here is a short video about the styling from the Army Wives blog.
