I have seen this video a number of times, but I still love watching it! Happy Tuesday!

Last night I watched Joyeux Noel, a 2005 Academy Award Nominee for Best Foreign Language Film. If you want to watch a movie that really captures the meaning of Christmas, go out and rent this film today! It is set in 1914 and tells the story of one Christmas night during WWI when enemies were able to lay aside their differences, visit each others trenches and celebrate the holiday. Diane Kruger is beautiful in it, and I adore her clothes. I have never paid much attention to 1910’s and 20’s fashion, but recently I have been drawn to their silhouette. So, watch this movie, and Joyeux Noel!
A couple of nights ago I was watching White Christmas. I have to say that is one of my favorite Christmas movies. The music, the dancing, the clothes…I just love it all. I could watch Vera Ellen dance all day, and I am thinking of convincing one of my sisters to put together an act with me so that we can do that “Sisters” song…
But most of all, I am determined to one day have a dress just like the one Rosemary Clooney wears when she sings “Love You Didn’t Do Right By Me.”
If I had loved during this time period I would want to be a singer at a club like this. To wear beautiful dresses and sing beautiful songs every night would be my idea of the good life.
Remember months ago when I posted about a red ’40s shirtwaist dress I had been trying to finish for a while? Well, I was hoping that posting about it would inspire me to get it finished. That didn’t work, but I found the motivation when I decided that I wanted to wear the dress for my birthday. I will have to take a proper photo of the whole dress soon, but in the meantime, here is a photo of me and my good friend Heather to give you an idea what it looks like.
And, I swiped this video off of Miriam’s blog because I think the clothes and the music are fabulous. It really makes me want to start wearing 1920’s cloche hats!
Happy 40th birthday Sesame Street! I know this clip is from the 70’s, but it’s got a great swing beat. Plus, you’ve got to love Wynton Marsalis on the trumpet. I remember seeing this as a child and loving it as much then as I do now! Hope it brings a smile to your face!
I love coffee. I can’t get through the morning without a cup. I have been researching vintage coffee ads recently for a new set of paintings, going on display at Coffee & Creama here in Greenville in January. These are a few of my favorites, plus a great, if somewhat insulting tv ad from the 50’s!
I have been trying to decide how do to my hair for Friday’s vintage event. I have a gorgeous black and white 40’s style dress that my mom and I made. I decided that victory rolls with a big red flower would pe perfect. I frequently do a sort of faux victory roll look, as you can see in the photo of me in the paper dress, but for this event I want to attempt to do the real thing. I have been searching through video tutorials looking for someone with hair at least a similar length to mine, and I think I found it. I love this girl’s look, as well as the music in her video. I have more bangs than she does, but I think it should work.
Looks easy, right? We’ll see how it goes. I will post the results after the show. Or, better yet, come out on Friday to the Art & Light Gallery and see for yourself!
